Lanzarote - February 2008
A very strange holiday for me - NO railways anywhere. Rather this holiday was all about having some time off and relaxing! I stayed in the village of Tías on the Canary Island Lanzarote which is a little inland but overlooks the coast towards Fuerteventura. As part of the plan to totally relax I decided to stay at the Holistic Holidays villa. I can thoroughly recommend this location and the people who run it, in fact it would be hard to over-estimate recommendation. If you need some time off to relax try them!
Presented below are a set of photo galleries grouped by type:
The Villa and Around Tías The villa on the edge of Tías was a short walk to the centre where all the facilities can be found. The view from the villa is excellent and is often enjoyed by the resident cats! The photos show the weather wasn't always excellent - well it was February! On one day the atmosphere was filled with dust from the Sahara severely reducing visibility. On other days it just rained! But not for long and it was never cold. |

Sunsets and Cloud Formations seen from the Villa When the weather was right the villa made an excellent place to sit, watch and photograph the sunset. In addition, at times, the setting sun playing tricks with lighting of clouds in the sky. |

Exploring the Northern end of the Island A warm day which started off sunny and ended with rain! Clouds chased me up the island as I headed north. A followed a circuit from Tías to the north of the island and back. First stop was Teguise to look at the former capital of the island and the Sunday market. From Teguise I headed north into the hills past the wind farm 'Parque Eolico', through Haria and Máguez and Ye heading for Mirador del Rio with the stunning views over the island of La Graciosa. Next I headed to the north eastern coastal fishing port of Orzolo before heading back south stopping off at the lava tube 'Cueva Los Verdes' and the nearby 'Jameos del Agua'. At the later, part of the same lava tube complex as 'Cueva Los Verdes', a white coloured species of crab inhabits a pool of water at the base of the lava tube, in between two sections where the roof has collapsed. Additionally an interesting and extensive exhibition on volcanoes is provided at the site. From here, in worsening weather, I head down the eastern side of the island and back to Tías. |
