Hudswell Clarke No.140

This 0-6-0t is based on the Embsay and Bolton Abbey Railway, home of other locos with Porta exhaust ejectors. The locomotive was given its Lempor, inside the original outline chimney, when it returned to service from heavy overhaul in 1998.

This Hudswell Clarke built locomotive is a product of 1948, works number 1821. 140 had worked for the NCB at both Thrislington and Horden pits. It has 16" diameter outside cylinders.

No.140 at Bolton Abbey station ready to return to Embsay. The smokebox door was rapidly approaching the end of its life. However the strong draught provided by the Lempor exhaust ejector helped to make sure the locomotive would steam despite the less than air tight door. 11 June 2006
