The Work of Roger Waller & DLM
DLM
are the Swiss based company which, in 1992 when part of SLM, produced a series
of rack tank locomotives showing the world just how cheap and easy to use
modern steam locomotives can be. DLM is lead by engineer Roger Waller who
worked under David Wardale in South Africa. He was, amongst other things,
involved in the indicated tests undertaken with 3450 aka 'The Red Devil'.
In addition to the 1992 built rack tanks further batches followed in 1995 and 1996. These locomotives can be found operating on the Brienz Rothorn Bahn (BRB) in Switzerland and the Schafbergbahn in Austria.
On Lake Geneva one of the fleet of steam ships, Montreux, operates with a brand new engine and boiler from the SLM/DLM stable.
