My itinerary was:
Thursday 03 June: Bath Spa to London Paddington by First Great Western HST. Then on London Underground to Kings Cross St Pancras for my hotel.
Friday 04 June: London St Pancras International to Paris Nord by Eurostar. Then across Paris on RER line D to Paris Lyon for the TGV to Nîmes. In Nîmes I collected a hire car and drove to the small town of Anduze, my base for the next few days.
Saturday 05 – Monday 07 June: Travelling on and photographing ‘Train à vapeur des Cévennes’, driving a circuit from Anduze over the Corniche de Cévennes, Gorge de la Jonte and Gorge du Tarn and exploring the long closed CFD Lozère line.
Tuesday 08 June: Visiting Pont du Gard and Nîmes, looking especially at the Roman remains. Followed by Nîmes to Perpignan on a TGV over the ‘classic’ route.
Wednesday 09 June: Perpignan to Carcassonne via ‘Le Petite Train Jaune’ and TER service to Toulouse, followed by a Corail Téoz service on to Carcassonne.
Thursday 10 June: Exploring Carcassonne.
Friday 11 June: Carcassonne to Nîmes by TGV, then Nîmes to Ales on a TER service and Ales to Clermont Ferrand by Corail service over the Ligne des Cévennes.
Saturday 12 June: Mainline steam with 141R420 from Clermont Ferrand to Montluçon and back, the Montluçon ‘Festirail’ event including the topped and tailed mainline shuttle from Montluçon to Commentry and back with 141R420 and 141R840.
Sunday 13 June: Clermont Ferrand to Paris Lyon on a Corail Téoz service, back Paris Nord by RER line D and from there to London St Pancras International by Eurostar. Then London Underground to Paddington for a First Great Western HST onwards to Bath Spa.
