The oil firing system, based on the Laidlaw-Drew type, was designed by Phil Girdlestone in South Africa (see: http://www.pgrail.co.za). The locomotive became the first in the history of Spanish preservation to be equipped to burn light fuel oil. It is more normal for heavy fuel oils to be burnt in Spain.
