A start has been made at re-lagging the cylinders. Unlike the last time around when just Kaowool was used this time industrial type aluminium foil has been used for the first layer. The Kaowool will be fitted over the top of this foil. The foil will serve two purposes, firstly it will increase the degree of insulation and secondly the Kaowool gets wet and can stay wet for a long time thus promoting corrosion. The foil barrier should help to offset this.
The outside lefthand cylinder bore was cleaned up prior to the refitting of the crosshead.

Underneath the locomotive new draincock pipework for the inside steamchest (it is shared by the two inside cylinders) was trial fitted.
On the boiler all the small tubes that could be fitted have been. These have been expanded and beaded. The flue tubes will be installed shortly.

In the two weeks since the last working party a fair bit has happened with the contract jobs. Most of the small tubes have been fitted to the boiler, the replacement stay nuts have arrived and some have been fitted whilst further progress has been made on reconstruction of the tender coal space.

At last the awkward job of cleaning up the underneath of the centre cylinders was finished. A coat of protective micasious paint finished the job of nicely.

And finally some people seem to need help...
There is no report for this weekend as we are all having the weekend off.
A fairly quiet day with several regulars elsewhere.
Work was again concentrated on preparation for painting. A start has been made on preparing the tender now that all welding associated with the new coal space has been completed. A normal cladding sheets from various parts of the locomotive got some attention.
Unfortunately the weather was less than kind. Heavy, thundery, showers in the afternoon slowed progress on outside jobs and did a good job of trying to flood the shed.
