October 25/26
Nothing much to report as we have decided to have a weekend off ! That said Mick Carr will be doing some pre-painting preparation.
During the week work on expanding the flue tubes has progressed well. At the firebox end work on expanding and beading is complete. It is expect the 11 missing small tubes will arrive during the week.

A great deal more work went in to the tender and tender components. A lot of painting has taken place and thorough cleaning has continued on the frames and underneath the tank.

And
finally, a message from Somerset ! |
In the week the chassis visited the wheel drop. The rear driving axle was dropped to allow it to be prepared for retrying now we are ready to get it done.

After the driving wheels were removed, and the coupling rods for the front most pair of driven axles were refitted, the 4-4-0 chassis returned to the 6024 shed on turntable road 19.

Other jobs completed since the last report include both outside cylinder tops lagged and cladding refitted whilst both sections of running board have been refitted over the outside cylinders. The left hand outside cylinder drain cocks refitted.
The tender has been seriously attacked. It has been more or less completely rubbed down and cleaned. Most fittings that had been removed have now been refitted - such as the water gauge and fire iron storage space.
All flue tubes are in place with beading in hand.

Trapped ! Kevin Blake was locked in the tender without the necessary parts to do the job just for fun (so I am told...) He should be helping to refit the tender water gauge. © Colin Henderson. October 12 2003

Looking good - with virtually all the tubes in work on the boiler is progressing at a very good rate. © Colin Henderson. October 12 2003
Thanks to Colin Henderson & Huw Button for the info
All unbeaded small tubes have been beaded. We are now waiting for eleven replacement tubes, the originals supplied were too large.
As has become normal a lot of rubbing down of this and that continued. The tender was attacked with a vengeance.
