Work this weekend centred on priming sections of boiler cladding and other items. The smokebox, primed the previous weekend, was rubbed down and given a second coat of primer. This included the smokebox door. The smokebox ring was rubbed down in preparation for a coat of micaceous paint. The machined face of the smokebox door which forms the seal with the ring was rubbed down and primed to protect it. The same was done with the face of the ring. The top portion of the ring inside the smokebox was wire brushed and primed to prevent further rusting.

Being a Sunday most people had packed up and gone by 16:30. It was at this point the society Chairman remembered he wanted to move the superheater elements in to the shed. Not surprisingly the few of us left were well and truly finished off by this effort !

Having brought home a pile of bar, on Saturday, some mug was persuaded to drive them a bit further today. The bar is to be cut and tapped to make stay nuts for the inner firebox by Park Engineering in Weymouth.

Ready to go with all the bar loaded in the back of this mugs' car. The suspension was down a bit ! July 24 2003

Good progress has been made in the last few weeks.

The flue tubes have had their bottle ends welded on professionally and are now on site waiting to be fitted. Mid week work on the boiler has progressed well. There is not much more to do now before it will be ready to be retubed.

The tubes are screwed in the the firebox tubeplate. Mid week Steve Underhill has been re-cutting the threads. July 19 2003

The previous weekend a start was made on wire brushing the smokebox and applying a zinc based primer. This was largely finished off. Only the section around the smokebox saddle still needs to be attacked.

The before. With the upper section of the smokebox largely wired brushed a break was taken for breakfast. July 19 2003
