This is the front section of the ashpan. The large cut outs will be where the hopper doors sit. Above the smaller cut outs will sit a trangular section to direct ash out through the doors and prevent a build up in the centre. June 28 2003

Many thanks for the news this week to John and Leon Salter and Colin Henderson. I was off being a Best Man at a great wedding in Wales. Congratulations to Keith and Tracy Lazenby.

In the week our shed was finished off with a set of doors, guttering and corner cladding applied. The sections of the smokebox surrounding the exits for the outside steam pipes have been cut out and replaced bringing the metal back up to full thickness. Needle gunning of the outside of the smokebox is now under way.

Most work was concentrated in the shed. A little bit of shunting mid week now has the tender in front of the chassis, and for now, out in the open. Between the tender and chassis the rebuilding of the ashpan, as a contract job, is underway to a very high standard.
